Alok is a Venture Capitalist by profession, working with Helion Ventures as a Partner. Until recently, he was the Chief Operating Officer of SAP India Pvt. Ltd., a large global software company’s India subsidiary. Alok was also a strategy consultant (with McKinsey & Company in India and The McKenna Group in California, USA) before starting his career as a software developer at Cadence Design Systems. Alok did his undergrad in Computer Science from IIT Delhi, a Masters in Computer Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from INSEAD, France. Alok is based in Gurgaon, and apart from puzzles, Alok is passionate about cricket, running, light & classical Indian music, hiking and sleeping on weekends. Alok is married to Pooja, and is a father of two lovely daughters – Anisha and Arushi – age 8 and 6.

Alok got hooked to puzzles at a very early age, initiated into puzzles by his father who was a Professor of Physics at IIT Delhi and himself an avid puzzler. During early years, family and friends were the primary sources of puzzles. While in high school (class XI), Alok’s class teacher introduced Alok to the world of Martin Gardner, a popular American science and mathematics writer who wrote a column for Scientific American for 25+ years and created some of the most interesting collections of puzzles. Alok also met and enjoyed puzzling with many folks in IIT Delhi as well as the graduate school of Computer Science in Austin.

    Hi Alok,
Finally a picture I could recognize! Everywhere else you were giving serious speeches in serious suites …not that there is anything wrong with that, of course.

Don’t forget our math teachers (I do not remember their names …getting older I guess), in whose classes we had to sit and solve all the problems in the book.
